The first step is pre-dance training for ages 3 to 7 in ballet, tap, jazz and hip hop taught as combo classes.
To prepare students for the more technical levels of dance training that begin at age 8, there are three things that are appropriate
and necessary for the teacher to accomplish: Instilling in the students a love of dance, teaching students the most
elementary basics of dance and nurturing a feeling of safety, comfort and confidence for learning in a dance studio setting.
Our unique program balances elementary technique with fun and creativity to give our tiny dancers the joy
and love of dance as well as the discipline, focus and physical development necessary for a child to start the more technical
classes fully prepared to enjoy the experience.
In pre-dance basic steps are taught but along with the fundamentals there are special dances to fairy tale
themes with age appropriate props, steps and music. The dances are carefully designed so that our youngest students
use the basics of dance while having fun and being creative.
Our students can't wait to learn and perform these dances. Dance class becomes a fun, enjoyable, can't
miss activity. Through care and nurturing our tiny dancers learn to love dance, especially ballet, and their natural
love of performing shines through. While many studios are having trouble getting their students to take ballet, we grow
our own ballerinas who learn early to love the joy, grace and beauty of ballet.
All pre-dance students may take part in the Winter ballet production and the June recital.
After primary, the last level of pre-dance, the students graduate from First Steps Academy with an award
to celebrate their first steps as a dancer. Excited about dance and fully prepares, they enter the next phase of their
dance education.
